Abstract:
Marami na ang naisulat tungkol sa Cinemalaya ngunit hindi nabibigyan ng substansyal na diskusyon ang isa sa mahalagang kontribusyon nito sa film culture: ang kompetisyong nagbigay ng mahalagang espasyo para sa mga maikling pelikula at nagpakilala ng anyong sining na ito sa mas maraming manonood. Sa pagsuri ng mga maikling pelikulang bahagi ng Cinemalaya mula 2005 hanggang 2020, binigyang-pansin ang mga pagbabago sa teknolohiyang pampelikula, mula sa umpisa ng paggamit ng mga naunang digital camera at mga midyum na pangrekord tulad ng mini-DV tape, hanggang sa mga mas sopistikadong gadget at editing software sa kasalukuyang panahon. Ang ebolusyon ng teknolohiya ay nagpabago sa estetika at hitsura ng mga maikling pelikula. Nawala ang sinaunang shaky na hitsura ng indie at napalitan ng mas makikinis at “sinematikong” mga imahen dulot ng pagtaas ng kalidad ng mga digital camera. Mas naging accessible na ang iba pang teknolohiya sa postproduksyon, tulad ng CGI at color grading na tumutulong sa filmmaker upang maikuwento ang pelikula sa mga kakaiba at bagong pamamaraan. Senyales ang mga ito na nagiging mas abot-kamay para sa mga (kadalasa’y gitnang-uring) filmmaker ang mga kagamitan sa paglikha ng pelikula. Gayunpaman, ang teknolohiya ay isa lamang aparato. Ang pag-unlad ng estetika ng pelikula ay, una sa lahat, produkto ng makulit na imahinasyon ng filmmaker at ang mga available na teknolohiya ang kaniyang magagamit para maisakatuparan ito.
