Rosemarie B. Carillo | Remigilda D Gallardo

Abstract:

This research explored the narratives of students who did not have gadgets to use in their online classes. Qualitative phenomenology was utilized as a research design in conducting the study. Several ten students from Bago Elementary School were selected as participants based on the criteria created. As a researcher, I am bound by the rules of ethics. Appropriate steps were observed to adhere to strict ethical guidelines to uphold participants’ privacy, confidentiality, dignity, rights, and anonymity. In collecting the data, a one-on-one interview with the Participants followed the restorative measures set by the Department of Health. In analyzing the students’ experiences in online learning with the lack of gadgets, it was revealed that the lack of internet connection and the lack of gadgets are why they have difficulty attending online classes. The coping mechanism of the participants was finding ways to borrow devices and persevere in dealing with the challenges at hand. It can be learned in the study that determination and perseverance, making the most out of what they have, and never giving up and doing their best were the sole reasons they continued to study despite the hurdles. It is recommended that learning materials should be provided to address this problem.
