Lived Experiences of Hotel Housekeepers

Ralph Benedict E. Macias | Michelle A. Tapang

Discipline: Hotel and Restaurant Management

Abstract:

This is a phenomenological study on the experiences of hotel housekeepers. Two people who have been in the hotel industry for more than 20 years were interviewed on their experiences as housekeepers in a deluxe hotel in Manila.

The experiences of the housekeepers showed that their work is financially rewarding and socially fulfilling. Their income and the tips received from guests are enough to take care of the basic needs of their family. They have opportunities to meet a lot of people especially famous ones. Although their job requires much physical effort, they learned to love their work because they believed that they are serving people.Â
