Abstract:

One strategy for improving competencies in preparation for an area of specialization is through industry experience. Integration of learning and skills is achieved in the actual work settings. Readiness programs set by selected higher education institutions (HEIs) are often via linkages or affiliations with the industry. This paper assessed the impact of the industry partnership program on the students‘ learning development, as well as with the hotel and restaurant business operations. It also evaluated the degree of existing partnerships of the participating colleges and universities with the industry. Hotel and restaurant standards for students‘ placement were also evaluated. It was found that partnerships produced more jobs and skills development opportunities for students through memorandums of agreement. It also revealed that contributory criteria, contextual criteria, strategies and outcome/results manifested no significant difference. While the difference between the ratings of the participants is not significant, it can be concluded that their respective job positions and industry belong do not influence their ratings.
