Continuing Professional Development Compliance: Opinions, Awareness, Participation, and Challenges Experienced by Radiologic Technologists in Northern Luzon During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract:
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has been conceived to maintain, update, and acquire new knowledge and skills for the professions to improve practice. The mandated CPD is a system of processes to improve practice. Still, it has been considered a requirement, not a hamper, to practice by many because it is a requirement for the renewal of a professional identification card (PIC). This study aimed to discover the opinions, awareness, participation, and challenges experienced by radiologic technologists in northern Luzon during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, it would like to fill the gap in the studies about radiologic technology, a fast-evolving discipline in the healthcare field, and identify their stand on the CPD requirements. The descriptive survey was conducted among 146 radiologic technologists in the north Luzon area through an online platform. Results showed that the radiologic technologists have positive opinions on CPD, are aware of the purposes, benefits, and impacts of CPD on the practice of the profession, and mostly participated in conferences either online or face-to-face offerings of the CPD units. Most consider time the most challenging part of pursuing CPD units. Employer support is rated as a challenge regarding financial and opportunity provision for the CPD. It is thus recommended that employer extend support beyond the financial to extend other forms of support for the compliance of CPD requirements of their employees.
