The Stories of LGBT Student- leaders: A Multiple Case Study

Abstract:
The purpose of this qualitative study was to unlock the different points of view from LGBT
students in their involvement in the field of leadership. Furthermore, a phenomenological
method was employed to highlight the informants' and participants' perspectives. From
the study's point of view, this study attempted to collect information using inductive and
qualitative approaches such as interviews, discussions, and participant observations. Also,
this served as a future reference for more relevant information about the LGBT students’
perspectives in the field of leadership. With these, the study wanted to unveil the various
perspectives of the LGBT students in the field of leadership that might contribute and give
insights to the LGBT students. Results revealed the experiences of the participants:
questioning one's capability as a leader, dealing with gender discrimination, and
acknowledging of skills in organizational success. In response to the challenges they have
encountered, they deemed the following coping strategies as essential. These were
ignoring one’s detractors, view discrimination as an avenue for improvement, having a
support system that understands one's struggles, and embracing your true selves. Upon
reflecting on their entire experience, they arrived at the following insights - the need to fight
for our rights, the need to be optimistic, embracing uniqueness as a person, and the need
to ignore negative feedbacks. The results of this study were deemed significant to the
participants, teachers, students, and the researchers.
