Abstract:
This study explores the motivations of Filipino tourists traveling to Japan by examining their identity, context, and experiences. It seeks to understand why Filipinos choose Japan as a travel destination and analyze the relationship between these factors to uncover the phenomenon of Filipino tourism in Japan. The study employs existential phenomenology, focusing on human experiences and their underlying purposes. Data were collected through a researcher-made interview guide distributed to 11 Filipino tourists. Findings indicate that most Filipino travelers visit international destinations to experience diverse cultures, climates, festivals, cuisine, and attractions. The study’s results contribute to a deeper understanding of the push and pull factors—such as motivation, satisfaction, and intent to revisit—that influence Filipino tourists' travel behavior. Furthermore, it highlights the interplay of identity, context, and experience in shaping their travel decisions, particularly in choosing Japan as a preferred destination.
