Analyzing The Perceived 21St Century Skills Among Computing Students In The Age Of Technological Disruption

Abstract:
The 4th industrial revolution continues to disrupt various sectors of society, reshaping industries and redefining workplace demands. As digital transformation accelerates, the modern workforce requires continuous reskilling and upskilling, necessitating educational institutions to prepare students for the evolving professional landscape. Given this shift, it is imperative to equip computing students with 21st-century skills essential for success in the digital economy. This study employs a descriptive cross-sectional research design to examine the perceived 21st-century skills among computing students enrolled in a private higher education institution in the Philippines. Through a structured data collection process, the study assesses students’ competencies in four key skill categories: ways of thinking, ways of working, tools for working, and skills for living in the world. Findings reveal that students strongly perceive themselves as having a solid foundation in 21st-century skills, particularly in tools for working and skills for living in the world. These results underscore the importance of continuous curriculum enhancement to further develop collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills, ensuring that computing students remain competitive and adaptable in the technology-driven workplace of the
