Discipline: Education

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the research competency and capabilities of Senior High School Students in writing research as the basis for crafting a skills development program. The study employed a descriptive quantitative research design for its investigation. The researcher used a survey questionnaire to measure the level of competency and research capabilities of 188 enrolled Senior High School students for the S.Y. 2023-2024. This research utilized the Weighted Mean, Mann-Whitney U Test, and Kruskal-Wallis H Test to obtain the results. The study revealed that the students were "Competent" in writing each part of the research, and they were "Capable" in Information-Seeking skills, Problem-Solving skills, Analysis Skills, Writing skills, and Communication skills. It further revealed that there was no significant difference in research competency when grouped according to their profile variables; however, a significant difference in research capabilities was observed when grouped according to their profile variable. A skills development program was crafted and recommended for implementation based on the identified items from the variables with the lowest mean scores in respondents' assessments.
