Discipline: Education

Abstract:

The study aimed to investigate the relationship between teachers’ competence and strategies for fostering the reading skills of Grade 5 pupils. By examining this dynamic relationship, this study aimed to develop a training program that enhances literacy education for elementary students. A total of 15 Grade 5 teachers and a sample of 189 Grade 5 pupils were randomly chosen from the population using the Raosoft online sample calculator. The study used a descriptive correlation and documentary analysis method. According to the Spearmen rho correlation, the study's findings showed that teachers’ competence and strategies did not statistically correlate significantly with the pupils’ reading levels. This suggests that improving reading proficiency may require a more comprehensive approach,
