Effects Of Video Lessons On Students’ Motivation And Performance In Science 6

Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the effects of video lessons on motivation and performance in Science 6. The study used the descriptive method of research with the aid of an evaluation tool adopted from DepEd to evaluate the developed video lessons in terms of content quality, instructional quality and technical quality. On the other hand, it used experimental methods of research to determine the effects of video lessons on the student respondents’ performance in Science 6. It specifically used the two-group experimental design with a control and an experimental group. Each group consisted of 50 students. The findings of the study are: the two groups of respondents evaluated the developed video lessons as very satisfactory in terms of content quality, instructional quality and technical quality, there was no significant difference in the evaluation of the two groups of respondents on the developed video lessons in terms of content quality, instructional quality and technical quality, the student respondents perceived that they are always motivated in the use of the video lesson, the students in experimental group obtained higher posttest mean score of 39. 74 compared to those in the control group which obtained a posttest mean score of 32.90, there was a significant difference between the posttest mean scores of the control and the experimental groups and the student’s motivation was not a positive predictor of their performance in the video lessons. The experimental group's notably higher posttest scores imply that the use of these video lessons correlates with improved academic performance compared to traditional methods and student respondents consistently expressed high levels of motivation towards utilizing the video lessons, indicating an engaged learning experience. Recommendations provided by evaluators, including incorporating differentiated instruction, enhancing accessibility features, and integrating real-life examples, offer valuable insights for further enhancing the effectiveness and inclusivity of the video lessons.
