Abstract:

This study examined the effectiveness of contextualized learning activity sheets towards the academic performance of grade 7 learners in English. The subjects were 41 Grade 7 learners of Tboli Integrated School for the school year 2023-2024. Two instruments were developed: the pre-test and post-test and the contextualized learning activity sheets. Specifically, a pre-test/post-test single group design was used to determine the effect of the contextualized materials. The pre-test and post-test were administered to the subjects at the first and end of the first quarter before and after they had completed the contextualized learning content respectively. Meanwhile, the administration of the contextualized learning activity sheets lasted for twenty-four (24) days before the conduct of the post-test. Also, paired t-test was used in treating the data. The study revealed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of Grade 7 learners. The post-test scores of Grade 7 learners in English (M=37.54) were higher than the pre-test scores (M=20.85). It was concluded that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the Grade 7 learners (M=16.68). Thus, utilizing contextualized learning activity sheets was an effective teaching method, resulting in a better academic performance of the Grade 7 students in English.
