Abstract:
With the increasing focus on university sports and athlete development, understanding these factors is crucial for improving training strategies and achieving competitive excellence. This descriptive research surveyed student-athletes to assess their level of engagement, sources of motivation, and key performance determinants. The findings indicate that participation frequency and training intensity significantly impact athletic performance. Motivation, both intrinsic and extrinsic, plays a vital role in sustaining commitment and improving competitive outcomes. Performance was assessed based on physical fitness, tactical execution, psychological resilience, and teamwork abilities. Results highlight that higher levels of participation and motivation contribute positively to performance outcomes. The test of differences revealed that performance levels do not significantly vary by gender and hometown, however, a significant difference was found in recovery and injury prevention among student-athletes grouped by academic discipline. This suggests that differences in academic workload and time management strategies may influence how the athletes approach recovery. Furthermore, the study underscores the necessity of structured and scientifically backed training programs to optimize athlete development. The insights provide valuable recommendations for coaches and sports administrators in designing effective training methodologies and fostering a supportive sports culture. By addressing participation barriers, enhancing motivational strategies, and refining performance metrics, this study contributes to the broader discourse on sports excellence at the collegiate level. Future research should examine the long-term impact of these factors on post-university athletic careers.
