School Culture, Management Practices, and Organizational Performance in Chinese Public Universities

Abstract:

This study utilized descriptive research to determine the relationship among school culture, management practices, and organizational performance, in Chinese public universities in Xinjiang province. Data were collected from 438 teachers using the Sojump online survey platform, and balanced proportional sampling was used to determine the sample size Results showed that there were almost the same number of male and female respondents, aged 51 years old and above, with master’s degree and 21 years and above in service. The respondents agreed on all the indicators under school culture, management practices, and organizational performance. It signified a strong shared understanding of the school environment and its functioning. This shared understanding can be a powerful driver of school improvement. Additionally, no significant difference of responses in school culture, management practices and organizational performance were found among the respondents when grouped according to profile variables. Also, there was a highly significant relationship among the three variables. This implies that school culture and management practices were crucial for school success. In essence, the way the school was run (management practices) and the atmosphere within it (school culture) were crucial determinants of how well the school performs in achieving its goals. In the end, a continuous improvement plan for Chinese public universities was proposed. This study provided valuable practical insights for policy makers and university administrators by strengthening campus culture, optimizing management practices, and improving organizational performance.
