Smartlibrary: Comprehensive Rfid-Based Library System For Attendance Tracking And Inventory Management

Jules Ian C Aguila | Neil P. Balba

Discipline: information systems

Abstract:

This paper presents the design and implementation of SmartLibrary, an RFID-based library management system developed for the Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna (LPUL). The system was designed to address key operational challenges in library management, specifically manual attendance logging, inefficient inventory tracking, and delays in book borrowing and returning processes. Utilizing RFID-enabled ID cards, the system automatically logs student attendance upon entry and exit, significantly improving accuracy and efficiency. The integrated barcode and RFID functionality allows for real-time inventory updates, streamlining circulation processes. Additionally, an Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) feature was built into the system, allowing users to search for books by topic, author, or title through an intuitive interface. The system also features a dynamic dashboard that visualizes usage statistics and operational data, enabling better administrative oversight and planning. Using Laravel for backend logic, Bootstrap for the frontend, MySQL for data handling, and XAMPP for local hosting, the system was rigorously tested using ISO 25010 quality metrics. Results demonstrated a 100% success rate in functionality and user satisfaction. The SmartLibrary system ultimately offers a scalable and efficient solution to modernize library operations and provide a better user experience for both staff and students.
