Abstract:
This study investigates the economic and health resilience practices of young Moro women in the SPMS Box of Maguindanao del Sur in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Using a community-based participatory approach, data were gathered through surveys (n=32), focus group discussions (n=45), and individual interviews (n=21). The findings reveal significant vulnerabilities including poverty, educational barriers, poor access to health services, and the effects of conflict and displacement. Despite these, young women demonstrate resilience through small business initiatives, faith-based practices, peer support, and advocacy for gender equality. The study identifies locally embedded strategies and offers policy recommendations for strengthening women's organizing, improving access to education and health services, and eliminating practices such as early marriage and polygyny.
