Level of Job Satisfaction and Workplace Literacy Affecting the Job Performance of Security Guards in Makati City

Juan C. Binasoy

Discipline: human resource management

Abstract:

Security guards are crucial in maintaining safety and order in various settings, from commercial establishments to residential areas. Their presence not only deters potential criminals but also provides a sense of security for employees, customers, and residents. Makati City, a bustling metropolis in the heart of Metro Manila, Philippines, is known for its high-rise buildings, commercial centers, and vibrant business districts. As the financial hub of the country, Makati attracts a diverse population of residents, workers, and visitors. Ensuring the safety and security of this dynamic environment is a formidable task, and security guards play a pivotal role in maintaining order and safety. This study aims to evaluate job satisfaction and workplace literacy and their impact on job performance among private security guards, providing a basis for enhancement strategies. The study used a descriptive design and a self-made questionnaire was used as an instrument in gathering data. The findings revealed that security guards generally report moderate levels of job satisfaction, with specific areas such as recognition, opportunities for promotion, and workplace conditions contributing significantly to their overall satisfaction. Additionally, workplace literacy, encompassing the ability to understand and follow security protocols, communicate effectively, and utilize necessary technology, was found to be a crucial factor in enhancing job performance. The study highlights a positive correlation between high levels of job satisfaction, strong workplace literacy, and improved job performance. These insights suggest that targeted interventions to improve both job satisfaction and workplace literacy could lead to more effective and efficient security services in Makati City.
