Psychological Factors Influencing Nursing Student'S Behavior: A Basis For Behavior Intervention Plan
Al-june Palermo
Discipline: Mental Health Nursing
Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the psychosocial factors that affect the nursing students’ behavior.
These factors were divided into three categories: individual student, immediate, and indirect
environmental factors. Utilizing the descriptive research design, the structured questionnaires
were distributed to the 97 fourth-year nursing students of a university in Ilagan City, Isabela,
chosen through stratified random sampling. A self-made questionnaire was utilized with a
reliability score of 0.94. Percentage distribution, weighted mean, t-test, and one-way ANOVA
were utilized to analyze the gathered data. The result revealed that the majority of the respondents
are 19-23 years old, commonly female, single, from section A, Roman Catholics, and Ilocanos.
Psychosocial factors such as individual student factors, immediate environmental factors, and
indirect environmental factors greatly influence the students’ behavior, particularly their physical
well-being, school assistance and guidance, and environmental incidents. Also, there is no
significant difference in the psychosocial factors that influence nursing students’ behavior when
grouped according to age, gender, year level, religion, and ethnicity. This indicates that nursing
students have the same psychosocial factors across the demographic profiles. To address the
psychosocial factors that influence nursing students’ behavior, there should be an enhancement
of self-reliance, individual self-discipline, and a relationship to the environment as a support
system. Developing healthy relationships towards self, parents, school administration, including
teachers and peers, and the community.
