The Two Faces of EI Niño

Abstract:

The spell of the early drought was felt as early as October 1997. Scientists predicted that this year will be the worst period of El Niño after its last phenomenon in 1982-83. Hot air, no breeze and the excruciating heat every afternoon marked the daily weather pattern in the metropolis. It was in stark contrast to that of October 1996. Heavy monsoon rains with accompanying low depression marked last year's weather.
