Teaching History and Political Science: The Need for Relevance and Innovation

Wilfrido V. Villacorta

Discipline: Education, History, Political Science

Abstract:

We know that history and political science are two fields that are especially sensitive nowadays, and we cannot blame teachers in these disciplines if they are confronted with the obvious difficulties of imparting historical and political truths to their students. But it seems that much of it is self-censorship. This is unfortunate because we know that the teaching of these two subjects should not be divorced from the realities of contemporary Philippine society, if we are to be true to our shorn duty as social analysts and educators.
