The paper reviews the historical development and performance of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) of the Philippines in the past 18 years (/976-to 1994). Information obtained from secondary source indicate remarkable increase in the number of fully immunized children in the country. The paper also examines the strategies and accomplishments of the Department of Health's National Immunization Day (NID) program. While the NID reportedly obtained impressive figures of immunized young children, it was beset with a number of problems during implementation. Finally, the author raised relevant areas for social science research on immunization.
