Developing a Mobile Application for SMS Privacy on Android OS

Klyde T. Camilo | Melanie L. Palmero

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to develop a mobile application that would provide Short Message Services (SMS) privacy on Android Operating Systems 2.1, deployed on a Samsung GT-I5503 Galaxy 5. The Stenography was used as the encryption – decryption algorithm, wherein SMS content was hidden in form of an image and the preloaded Gmail tool in the mobile handset was also utilized for thetransmission of the embedded image. The 4-D Process Model was used by the proponents for the project management and system construction phase. Bruce Busta’s Encryption i Theory and Practice was also used as a basis for the efficiency of the application. Ten respondents were chosen for the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to make sure that the functions of the system have been developed correctly. The proponents recommend for further enhancement of the application to achieve better performance particularly integrating different mobile operating system, the use of an additional algorithm that would strongly provide privacy to SMS content, the use of an additional algorithm that would strongly provide privacy to SMS content, the use of the built- in the future Android versions and an increase in the limitations of image size and transmission speed.
