DEPRESSION AMONG MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION (MI) PATIENTS IN GOVERNMENT TERTIARY HOSPITALS IN LAGUNA: BASIS IN DEVELOPING A HEALTH CAMPAIGN AD

Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the level of depression among patients with myocardial infarction (MI) in the tertiary government hospitals in Laguna. It also aimed to determine the relationship between the level of depression and the profile of the respondents such as age, gender, and income. A standardized questionnaire was used and results were interpreted through a given table of corresponding implications in accordance to the gotten scores of the respondents. The said questionnaires were distributed to 30 MI patients who were chosen through convenience sampling. These are the patients in Jose P. Rizal Memorial Hospital, Pagamutang Pangmasa ng Laguna, and Laguna Provincial Hospital. It was found out that 50% of the respondents aged 55 and below; 53% of the respondents are female; and 33% earns Php 5,001 – 10,000 a month. Fifty-seven percent of the respondents were experiencing mild depression and may be at risk to develop severe depression. It was also found out that depression is not significant related to the respondents’ age, gender, and income.
