Victor L. Delariarte

Discipline: International Relations

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to analyze the nature of the South China Sea (SCS) dispute and to propose an action plan to peacefully settle the conflict. It also determined and analyzed the perceived efficiency and benefits of the suggested cooperative community managed by the ASEAN and the United Nations. Specifically, it tried to measure the personal opinions of the respondents of the study, which included DFA officials, congressmen who are members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Committee on National Defense and Social Science professors from selected Colleges and Universities in Metro Manila. Answers to the questionnaire do not necessarily reflect their official position on the controversial issue but more of their personal opinions. The subject matter is limited to the South China Sea, the Spratlys’ group of islands and does not include the Paracel Islands disputes in the North China Sea.
