Abstract:

In the Philippines, the government approved and recommended the use of bio-fuels and other renewable sources of energy to eliminate the increasing problem in ecological degradation due to burning of fossil fuels coming from vehicles. Also, the cost of importing crude oil from the world market is not stable, most motorists are heavily affected by the unpredictable changes of the price of fuels for their cars.

This research study was conducted to evaluate the acceptability of using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as the source of fuel. This is a new trend in mass transportation, which is barely less than a year in the Philippines. According to the thirty-two respondents, the average length of conversion was less than seven months. The cost of conversion ranges from P 18,000 – P 30,000 depending upon the model of the car and the autogas companies that make the conversion. The average cost of conversion is P 25,000. Among the thirty-two respondents, twenty-one of them use a Toyota model and a far second is Nissan model with only nine. The other two car models with one respondent each are Mitsubishi and Mazda. The two leading autogas companies that make the conversion are MACRO LPG and NAIADSS with 16 and 13 users, respectively.
