This paper analyzed the nominal, adjectival and adverbial structures in the written compositions of FEU freshmen. Results indicate that of the nominal types, the simple nominals are pervasive in the compositions. The gerund and infinitive phrases are scant along with the clausal nominals. Of the adjectivals, the simple predicatives are less predominant along with the adjectival phrases and the clausal types. The adverbials in sentence modifier position are also less common. The sentences written by college students have been found to be more complex than the high school students in a previous study.
