Discipline: Teacher Training
Wattpad has become one of the most popular applications ever used by centennial learners, the “net generation” or the digital natives. The global multi- entertainment platform has almost 80 million users as of August, 2019. This paper looked into the possibility of integrating two (2) Wattpad stories in the hope of recognizing the students better in teaching and learning literature through a reader-based research method. There were seven common figures of speech considered useful in both stories: hyperbole, metaphor, simile, symbolism, idiom, personification, and onomatopoeia. Thirty students from Universidad de Sta Isabel SHS Department responded to the questionnaires. One of the objectives was to explore what the students think based on their perspective on human development and society’s belief in morality. Findings showed several societal issues in the stories that concerned most students. The study results suggest that Wattpad could be integrated into the 21st Century Literature subject where Cyber Literature should also be given importance since advanced technology is not new in institutions. This research encourages the curriculum planner to look into these suggestions since developments, and new literary discussions in education may begin with scholastic recommendations like this one.
