Discipline: Teacher Training
Abstract:
Technology has profoundly influenced students’ lives, playing a significant role in modern society.
This study aims to investigate the system of media platform consumption and to explore the
usefulness of media platforms in learning among first-year university students. The study
employed a descriptive-comparative research design for the investigation. The researcher used a
survey questionnaire with four-point Likert scales to measure students’ attitudes and insight into
media platform usage as a learning tool. The study utilized stratified random sampling among
1,499 students, a sample size of 306 enrolled first-year La Salette University students in 2024-
2025. The study employed statistical tools such as frequency and percentage to measure students’
demographic profile and hours spent, the Mann-Whitney U Test, and the Kruskal-Wallis H Test
to obtain the hypothesis results. The findings found that the respondents were “Useful” in the
perceived usefulness of social media as a learning tool. It further revealed no significant difference
between the perceived usefulness of social media as a learning tool when grouped by their
demographic profile. The results demonstrate that most of the respondents perceived media
platforms as invaluable for learning performance. The study proposed basic activities to help
students improve individualized and collaborative learning in the classroom environment,
utilizing a media platform as their academic outcome.
