Abstract:

The con-text of the renaissance of theory in literary studies in the "West" has prompted acts of theoretical self-reflexivity and auto-critique in the Philippine critical scene. Working on the metaphor of "silid na mahiwaga" or the enchanted room (which critic Soledad S. Reyes uses as the title of her anthology of Philippine women's writings in Filipino), the paper addresses itself as a S/subject of Philippine kritika; cites the metaphor and sites Reyes' trajectory of interventions in the "critical" project of liberating the S/subjects of Philippine nation, specifically in the act and area of reading and redefining the text of Philippine literature and popular culture.
