Abstract:

Sinusuri ng papel na ito ang nobelang Amapola sa 65 na Kabanata ni Ricardo, o Ricky, Lee bilang isang panitikang pambakla na may nakakubling kapangyarihan na maaaring humamon sa laganap pa ring homopobiya ng kamalayang Filipino. May apat na bahagi ang papel na ito. Una dito ay ang introduksiyon na tumatalakay sa buod ng naturang nobela, sa maikling intelektuwal na talambuhay ng may-akda, at sa kabuuang pakay ng papel na ito. Pangalawa dito ay ang isang paglalahad sa mga konteksto at inter-tekstong ginagamit at pinapakinabangan ni Lee para banayad na mapadaloy ang kaniyang kuwento at mensahe. Pangatlo dito ay ang paghahayag at paghihimay sa may limang tiyak na estratehiya na bumubuo sa kontra-diskursibong lakas ng naturang nobela. Pang-apat dito ay ang kongklusyon na nagbibigay buod sa mga puntos na inilatag ng papel na ito kasama na ang pagbigay diin na may taglay na potensiyal ang naturang nobela sa pag-ambag sa kolektibong gawain tungkol sa pagtibag at paglusaw sa homopobiyang umiiral sa kamalayang Pilipino.

This paper analyzes the novel Amapola sa 65 na Kabanata, written by Ricardo, or Ricky, Lee, as a gay literature that posseses a covert power that can challenge the still homophobic Filipino mentality. This paper has four parts. The first one is an introduction that tackles the summary of the said novel, the short intellectual biography of the writer, and the overall intentions of the paper. The second one is an exposition of the contexts and inter-texts that were used and exploited by Lee in order to smoothly push forward his story and message. The third one is the discussion and scrutiny of some five specific strategies that constitute the counter-discursive force of the novel. The fourth one is the conclusion that summarizes the points that were laid down by this paper including the emphasis that the novel holds certain potential that can contribute towards the collective project of addressing the homophobia that persists in the Filipino consciousness.
